    Damsel (2024) Rating: 6/10 Millie Bobby Brown decides she’s done with the Stranger Things upside-down and would rather spend two hours in a dragon’s literal basement. It’s a "girl-boss" survival story that swaps out the Prince Charming trope for a very large, very angry lizard with a grudge. THE SUMMARY Elodie (Brown) is a princess from a starving kingdom who agrees to marry a wealthy prince to save her people. Sounds like a Disney dream, right? Wrong. The royal family’s idea of a wedding reception is tossing her into a mountain as a sacrifice to a talking dragon. Left with nothing but a torn dress and her wits, Elodie has to stop being a "damsel" and start being a one-woman demolition crew. THE PROS Millie Bobby Brown is fantastic when she’s in "survival mode." She carries most of the movie alone in a cave, and you actually believe she’s in pain, terrified, and eventually, completely over everyone's nonsense. The dragon design is also top-tier—it moves more like a feline predator than a clunky monster, and Shohreh Aghdashloo’s voice work makes it sound genuinely ancient and intimidating. THE CONS The script is as predictable as a 1980s slasher. You can see every "twist" coming from a mile away, and the first 40 minutes of setup feel like they take forever just to get to the part we already saw in the trailer. Also, for a movie with a $140 million budget, some of the CGI landscapes look a bit like a high-end screensaver rather than a real world. THE VERDICT It’s a 6/10. It’s a solid, "one-time watch" action flick that’s fun for a Friday night but doesn't exactly reinvent the fantasy wheel. If you like watching Millie Bobby Brown set things on fire, you’re in for a good time. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA Despite the heavy CGI, many of the cave scenes were actually filmed on massive practical sets in London to make the environment feel more claustrophobic. Also, this is Millie’s third big Netflix project where her character's name starts with an 'E' (Eleven, Enola, Elodie)—at this point, it has to be a contractual requirement. THE VIBE Fairytale survival horror. It’s like The Revenant but with more glitter and dragon fire. Best watched if you’re in the mood for a quick "revenge" story that doesn't require too much deep thinking. ️
