Overview

Stu's stag do in South America goes bad when Greg collapses at customs and is found to be full of cocaine. Arrested, the group are taken to an island prison run by cocaine-smuggling siblings, Selma and Branco. Things go from very bad to much worse.

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Created by Daniel Cullen, this 2024 original is a high-speed descent into a pre-wedding nightmare. Groom-to-be Stu and his seven mates head to South America for a week of debauchery, but things turn dark when they’re caught with drugs at the airport. Instead of a flight home, they’re thrown into a depraved island prison run by warring drug-dealing siblings, Selma and Branco. It’s a six-part thriller that plays out like "The Hangover" met "Prison Break" in the worst way possible. THE PROS This is a solid watch because it manages to balance pitch-black comedy with genuine, heart-stopping tension. The ensemble cast is a standout; Nico Mirallegro and Charlie Cooper (from *This Country*) play these "eight idiots" with a chemistry that makes you believe they’ve been mates for years. The show looks fantastic, capturing the brutal environment of the island prison with a cinematic flair that makes the heat and grit feel real. It doesn't shy away from gory consequences either, ensuring the stakes feel high from the moment they land in a cell. It’s a fast-paced alternative to your usual crime procedural. THE CONS It stays at a 7 because the selfish and often insufferable nature of the main characters can make it a struggle to actually root for them.
