    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Directed by David Mackenzie (the mind behind Hell or High Water), this is a sleek, clever thriller that feels like a throwback to the paranoid cinema of the 70s. Riz Ahmed stars as Ash, a "fixer" who acts as a middleman between whistleblowers and the corrupt corporations they’re exposing. To keep his identity a ghost, he communicates exclusively through a relay service for the deaf. His rigid, rules-based life is thrown into chaos when he takes a case for Sarah (Lily James), a scientist hunted by a pharmaceutical giant. As the corporate goons close in, Ash is forced to break his own code of anonymity to keep them both alive. THE PROS Riz Ahmed is phenomenal here, delivering a performance that is almost entirely silent but incredibly expressive; you can feel his calculation and his anxiety in every frame. Lily James is a great match for him, bringing a fragile urgency to Sarah that keeps the stakes feeling grounded and sincere. It’s an 8/10 because David Mackenzie’s direction is surgical, using the everyday mechanics of the post office and phone services to build a unique sense of tension. The cinematography captures a cold, modern New York that feels lived-in and menacing, avoiding the usual glossy tourist shots. The first part of the movie is a masterclass in visual storytelling, showing us exactly how Ash operates without the need for a single "info-dump" conversation. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because the final act leans a bit too heavily on twists that pile up so fast they start to lose their punch. At nearly two hours, the middle part can feel slightly sluggish as it meticulously sets up the "cat and mouse" game, which might test the patience of anyone expecting a standard action flick. It misses a higher mark because some of the secondary villains, played by Sam Worthington and his team, feel a little like standard corporate henchmen who don't get much development. While the ending is gripping, it feels a bit more conventional than the highly original premise that the movie starts with. THE VERDICT An 8/10. A smart, tense, and incredibly stylish thriller that is a winner for anyone who prefers brainy suspense over mindless explosions. While it doesn't quite reach "epic status," it’s a gripping watch that makes a simple phone call feel like a life-or-death situation.
