    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Nine years after sending Richard Roper to his doom, Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) is living a quiet, isolated life in London under the name Alex Goodwin. Working a desk job for an MI6 surveillance unit, he thinks his days of infiltration are over—until a chance sighting of a former Roper mercenary pulls him back into the shadows. This time, the mission takes him to Colombia to bring down Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva), a ruthless businessman building a private guerrilla army. Alongside a new ally, Roxana (Camila Morrone), Pine must navigate a world where the ghosts of the past, including a grown-up Daniel Roper, are never far behind. THE PROS This is a great series because it proves that Tom Hiddleston was born to play this role; he brings a weary, honest grit to Pine that shows just how much the last decade has taken its toll. It hits an 8 because the shift from the Mediterranean glamour of the first season to the sweat-soaked tension of Colombia is amazing and keeps the formula fresh. Diego Calva is a total highlight as Teddy, offering a more modern, unpredictable kind of villainy compared to Roper’s old-school arrogance. The show is smart about its legacy, with the return of Olivia Colman as Angela Burr providing a sincere emotional anchor. It’s a stylish, high-stakes spy thriller that manages to feel both like a classic le Carré story and a contemporary action epic. THE CONS It stays at an 8 because the early episodes in London can feel like a bit of a slog as the show slowly moves the pieces into place. It misses a higher mark because some of the plot twists—particularly the shock reveals regarding the Roper legacy—are an honest head-scratcher and feel a bit "TV drama" compared to the grounded realism of the first season. The pacing in the middle of the season drags slightly during the undercover segments, and some viewers might find the absence of the original season's cinematic "sparkle" a pained loss. While it’s a great result for Prime Video, the six-episode limit means certain subplots, especially with the new MI6 team, feel a bit rushed by the time the finale hits. THE VERDICT 8/10. A tense, smart, and beautifully acted return for one of TV’s best spies. It’s amazing to have Pine back, and the show remains a fair shout for the most sophisticated thriller on television. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • To prepare for the role of an MI6 surveillance officer, Tom Hiddleston reportedly spent time with former intelligence officials to understand the "unseen" and often boring side of modern espionage before the action kicks off. • Noah Jupe returned to play Daniel Roper as a young man, and the writers focused heavily on his character to show the honest, long-term psychological damage left behind by his father’s criminal empire. • The "shock return" at the end of episode three was kept a massive secret during production, with the actor allegedly being moved around in tinted-window cars to prevent spoilers from leaking to the press. THE VIBE Like a hidden camera in a luxury suite. It smells of expensive cigars, tropical rain, and the metallic tang of a silenced pistol.
