Matthew Rhys stars as Tom Loftis, the weary mayor of a picturesque but deeply cursed island. Tom is desperate to turn the town into a tourist hotspot, but that’s a tough sell when the local landmarks include haunted inns, sea hags, and a literal "poisoned fog." It’s a 10-episode journey that balances sharp workplace comedy with genuine, skin-crawling terror, proving that sometimes the local council is scarier than the boogeyman. THE PROS Matthew Rhys is on top form here, pivoting from deadpan comedy to heartfelt grief with the kind of ease that makes him one of the best in the business. Kate O’Flynn is a total standout as the island’s resident loner, Patricia; her comedic timing is perfect and provides a great foil to Tom’s skepticism. Widow's Bay is a quaint island town 40 miles off the coast of New England. But something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis is desperate to revive his struggling community. There's no Wi-Fi, spotty cellular reception and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They don't. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination. Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true start happening again.
