    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARYLarry David teams up with Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company for a seven-episode sketch comedy series that completely rewrites American history. To celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary, Larry drops his signature, neurotic Curb Your Enthusiasm persona straight into defining historical moments. Whether he is playing a lazy third Wright brother, arguing over a horse-hitching post with Wyatt Earp, or getting excluded from the Boston Tea Party, Larry manages to insult and annoy everyone across the centuries. THE PROSThe guest cast is absolutely massive and heavily stacked with comedy royalty. Watching Bill Hader as a stressed-out Abraham Lincoln dealing with Kathryn Hahn’s unhinged Mary Todd Lincoln is incredible, and Jerry Seinfeld joining Larry for a disastrous Lewis and Clark expedition is pure nostalgia. The production values are surprisingly grand for a sketch show, with gorgeous period costumes and historical sets that make the ridiculous, improvised banter look even funnier. THE CONSBecause it relies entirely on the exact same joke—Larry being a petty, argumentative git in a wig—the format gets quite repetitive if you watch episodes back-to-back. The sketch structure means the episodes are incredibly short and simple, completely lacking the complex, beautifully woven storylines where Larry's individual arguments usually crash together for a massive finale. THE VERDICTA solid 7/10. It is a highly entertaining, star-studded piece of historical satire that serves as a lovely bit of minor Larry David genius. It comfortably hits a 7 because the central premise is a brilliant laugh and the chemistry between the rotating cast of comedy legends is top-tier. It misses an 8 simply because the bite-sized sketch format keeps the material feeling a bit safe and repetitive compared to his masterclass sitcom runs. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA• Presidential Intro: The entire series features a completely surreal cold-open from former US President Barack Obama, who introduces the show by jokingly calling Larry David one of the most selfish and unpleasant men in history.• Unscripted Past: Sticking to the signature style used in Curb Your Enthusiasm, the dialogue across all seven episodes was completely unscripted and heavily improvised by the actors based on loose, one-page scene outlines.• Historic Timing: The high-profile limited series was specifically commissioned and timed to drop on HBO exactly in tandem with the massive global celebrations for the United States Semiquincentennial. THE VIBELike taking a time machine back to the American Revolution but your only guide is a grumpy bloke complaining about the quality of the ink. It smells like old parchment, gunpowder, and pure irritation. Highly cynical, silly, and very starry.
