Sydney Sweeney
ActingSpokane, Washington, USAIf Hollywood executives sat down and asked themselves, "How do we create the next big movie star?" they'd probably end up with something remarkably close to Sydney Sweeney. Blessed with old-school screen presence and enough determination to make a marathon runner feel lazy, she's become one of the fastest-rising names in the business. And while plenty of people initially noticed the looks, it quickly became clear there was a lot more going on behind those famous blue eyes. For many viewers, Sydney first exploded onto the scene thanks to Euphoria, where her portrayal of Cassie Howard turned heartbreak, bad decisions and emotional meltdowns into an art form. The internet practically held weekly meetings to discuss what chaos Cassie would unleash next. Somehow, Sydney managed to make a character who spent half her time making terrible choices feel painfully human and oddly relatable. But writing her off as simply "that girl from Euphoria" would be a massive mistake. She'd already been quietly building an impressive career with roles in The Handmaid's Tale and Sharp Objects, proving she could more than hold her own alongside some serious acting heavyweights. And before long, Hollywood came knocking with bigger projects, from romantic comedies and superhero films to psychological thrillers. What makes Sydney's rise so interesting is that she's clearly got a proper business head on her shoulders too. While some actors are happy to let other people make all the decisions, she's stepped into producing and taken an active role behind the scenes. In fact, she's spoken openly about how acting alone doesn't always pay the bills in Hollywood, which is refreshingly honest in an industry where everyone likes to pretend they're living on fairy dust and good intentions. And despite becoming one of the most talked-about stars of her generation, she still gives off the impression of someone who's perfectly happy getting her hands dirty fixing cars or restoring old vehicles in her spare time. Which, let's be honest, isn't something you'd expect from one of Hollywood's biggest rising stars.Insomniacs Trivia
• Before acting took over her life, Sydney put together a detailed five-year business plan to convince her parents to support her dream. Most teenagers struggle to plan what they're having for tea, never mind map out a Hollywood career.• She's a genuine car enthusiast and regularly restores vintage vehicles. Her social media followers have become almost as invested in her mechanics projects as her acting career.• Sydney trained in mixed martial arts when she was younger and even competed in grappling tournaments. Which means she's probably one of the few people in Hollywood you wouldn't fancy arguing with.Insomniacs Take
Sydney Sweeney is one of those rare stars who feels both modern and old-school at the same time. She's got the glamour of a classic Hollywood leading lady, but also the work ethic and business savvy of someone who's determined to build something that lasts. And while the internet spends half its time obsessing over her, Sydney just seems to keep quietly getting on with becoming one of the biggest stars on the planet. Fair play to her.Click the Filmography tab to see all the Movies & Series linked to Sydney Sweeney on Insomniacs.
