What followed was an astonishing performance full of energy, emotion and enough shouting in Russian to make most people reach for subtitles. Knowing the Manson Family loved psychedelic artwork, she painted a bizarre picture, wrote a dramatic poem to Charles Manson on the back, stitched a lock of her own hair into it and performed the whole thing for Tarantino. Most actors just bring a headshot.• Long before Hollywood came calling, Mikey's life revolved around horses. She even switched to homeschooling after seventh grade so she could spend more time riding and competing. Eventually she traded the saddle for scripts, which was probably for the best considering how awards season turned out.• In one of those bizarre family connections that sounds made up, her grandmother's cousin was Clarence Hailey Long, the Texas cowboy whose image inspired the original Marlboro Man advertisements. In an age where everyone seems obsessed with building a personal brand and documenting their breakfast on Instagram, she lets her performances do the talking. There's a rare unpredictability about her work that keeps you glued to the screen, partly because she's brilliant and partly because you're never entirely sure if her character is about to burst into tears or stab somebody with a bread knife.
