Henry Cavill
ActingSt. Helier, Jersey, Channel IslandsIf you were to search the globe for a bloke who looks like he was carved out of marble by Michelangelo himself, you'd eventually stumble across Henry Cavill. The man is the human equivalent of a cheat code. Ridiculously handsome, built like a tank and blessed with a jawline that probably has its own postcode, he looks every bit the traditional Hollywood leading man. Which makes it all the more amusing that underneath all that Superman business is essentially a giant nerd who'd happily spend an evening painting tiny Warhammer soldiers and arguing about fantasy lore. For millions of fans, Cavill will always be the modern face of Superman. When he first donned the cape in Man of Steel, he brought a more grounded and powerful take on the iconic hero. Carrying the hopes of an entire cinematic universe on his incredibly broad shoulders isn't exactly a stress-free job, but Henry always brought a sincerity to the role that won over plenty of fans. And just when everyone thought he'd hung up the cape for good, he delighted comic book lovers with his gloriously daft "Cavillrine" cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. Somewhere, the internet collectively lost its mind. Of course, Superman wasn't enough for him. Henry swapped the cape for a massive silver sword and enough hair products to bankrupt a salon when he took on Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. Grunting his way through monsters, magic and deeply complicated family trees, he threw himself into the role with the enthusiasm of a man who'd probably read every page of the source material twice. Which, knowing Henry, he probably had. And while many stars spend their lives desperately trying to convince everyone how cool they are, Cavill seems refreshingly comfortable being himself. Whether he's reloading his arms like actual weapons in Mission: Impossible - Fallout, playing Sherlock Holmes in the Enola Holmes films or teaming up with Guy Ritchie for stylish spy capers, he carries himself with a sort of old-school movie star charm that's becoming increasingly rare. Perhaps the most endearing thing about him, though, is that fame never seems to have beaten the geek out of him. In fact, he's embraced it. From gaming marathons to his passion for Warhammer 40,000, Henry has built a career while remaining completely unapologetic about the things he loves. Fair play to the bloke. Insomniacs Trivia • When Zack Snyder rang to offer Henry the role of Superman, he initially ignored the call because he was too busy playing World of Warcraft. Imagine telling your teammates you nearly missed becoming Superman because the raid was going well. • During his school days, Henry was teased and nicknamed "Fat Cavill" by classmates. Looking at him now, those lads are probably pretending they never said a word. • Henry's beloved American Akita, Kal, is named after Superman's birth name, Kal-El. The dog regularly travels with him and has become something of a celebrity in his own right. Which is still less ridiculous than some Hollywood pets. Insomniacs Take Henry Cavill is proof that you can be ridiculously good-looking, enormously successful and still get genuinely excited about painting miniature soldiers. In an industry full of carefully manufactured personalities, he comes across as refreshingly authentic. Whether he's saving the world, hunting monsters or explaining Warhammer lore to anyone willing to listen, he does it with a level of enthusiasm that's impossible not to like. And honestly, cinema could do with a few more blokes like Henry Cavill. Click the Filmography tab to see all the Movies & Series linked to Henry Cavill on Insomniacs.
