    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 4/10 THE SUMMARY When a massive tectonic shift begins tearing the American continent in two, a geophysicist and her estranged pilot husband have to race against the clock to save their family and stop the total collapse of the West Coast. As giant fissures open up and cities start falling into the abyss, the duo has to navigate crumbling infrastructure and failing tech to reach a "safe zone" before the map is permanently redrawn. It’s a standard, high-concept disaster flick that trades scientific logic for CGI-heavy destruction and family drama. THE PROS If you’re just here to see landmarks get swallowed by the earth, the film delivers a decent bit of popcorn spectacle. It hits a 4 because the pacing is relentless; once the ground starts cracking, the movie doesn't slow down for anything, moving from one "close call" to the next with high energy. The lead performances are earnest enough, trying their best to sell the emotional weight of the disaster even when the dialogue is clunky. It’s an honest, brain-off action movie that works as background noise for a rainy afternoon when you just want to see things blow up without thinking too hard. THE CONS The CGI is hit-or-miss, with some of the larger destruction sequences looking more like a video game cutscene than a blockbuster movie. It stays at a 4 because the plot relies on every disaster cliché in the book—from the "scientist nobody listens to" to the "miraculous last-second escape." It misses a higher mark because the science is completely out the window; the way the tectonic plates move feels more like magic than geology, which might grate on anyone who likes a bit of grit and realism in their survival stories. The emotional stakes also feel a bit hollow, as the family reunion plot is something we've seen done much better in films like 'San Andreas' or '2012'. THE VERDICT 4/10. An honest, middle-of-the-road disaster movie that doesn't bring anything new to the genre. It’s a fair shout if you have a craving for some digital carnage, but it lacks the soul and tension to be anything more than a one-time watch. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • To save on production costs, the film utilized several "volume" sets similar to those used in 'The Mandalorian', projecting digital landscapes onto LED screens to simulate the massive, crumbling vistas of the rift. • The script was fast-tracked through production to capitalize on a recent surge of interest in "geological thrillers," leading to a filming schedule that lasted just under six weeks. • Several of the aerial "survival" stunts were performed using a mix of real helicopters and hydraulic gimbals to give the actors a more visceral sense of being caught in a world-ending earthquake. THE VIBE Like a vibrating phone on a glass table. It smells of ozone, burning rubber, and the metallic tang of a snapping steel cable.
