⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Based on Georgia Hunter’s staggering bestseller, this eight-part series is a harrowing yet hopeful account of the Kurc family, a Polish-Jewish clan separated at the start of WWII. Spanning multiple continents—from the ghettos of Poland to the freezing labor camps of Siberia and the shores of Brazil—the story follows their ten-year struggle to find each other against impossible odds. Starring Joey King and Logan Lerman, it’s a detailed look at survival that manages to avoid the usual "war drama" clichés, focusing instead on the human drive to stay connected. THE PROS This is a fantastic series because it treats each family member’s journey like its own distinct thriller. It hits a 9 because the chemistry between Joey King and Logan Lerman is a standout, delivering a sincere portrayal of siblings holding onto hope. The production value is world-class; the way they recreated 1930s Poland and wartime Rio de Janeiro using locations in Spain and Romania looks incredible. It’s a great watch because it avoids being pure "misery porn," choosing instead to highlight the ingenuity and sheer luck that kept the Kurcs alive. The finale is a proper gut-punch that provides a real sense of closure, making the whole journey feel essential.
