Overview

After the legendary "apple on the head" moment, Tell becomes the reluctant face of a bloody peasant revolt. It’s an honest, mud-caked reimagining of the folklore that focuses on the grit of guerrilla warfare and the pained reality of a man forced to become a symbol he never wanted to be. THE PROS This isn't your typical glossy historical epic; it feels tactile and lived-in. It hits a 7 because Claes Bang brings a silent, towering grit to the role, making Tell feel like a dangerous, tired warrior rather than a storybook hero. The cinematography is a win, using the natural scale of the Alps to create a sense of isolation and grandeur. The action sequences are honest and brutal, favoring heavy crossbow bolts and close-quarters combat over stylized choreography. It’s a sincere look at how a legend is built out of blood and necessity.
