⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Directed by Bart Layton and based on the Don Winslow novella, this is a slick, sun-bleached heist thriller that feels like a modern love letter to Michael Mann’s Heat. Chris Hemsworth plays Mike Davis, a disciplined jewel thief who operates with a strict code (the "Crime 101" of the title) to avoid DNA evidence and violence while pulling jobs along the California coast. His "one last score" involves a massive diamond heist at a high-end wedding, but things get messy when a relentless detective (Mark Ruffalo) starts connecting the dots and a volatile young rival (Barry Keoghan) decides he wants a piece of the action. THE PROS Chris Hemsworth is in top form here, ditching the hammer for a cool, calculated intensity that makes Mike Davis fascinating to watch. Mark Ruffalo provides the perfect foil as Lou, the weary but sharp detective whose domestic life is crumbling while he obsesses over the case. It’s an 8/10 because the cinematography is stunning, capturing Los Angeles and the 101 freeway in a way that feels both beautiful and gritty. Barry Keoghan is a standout as the unpredictable Ormon, bringing a nervous, dangerous energy that keeps you on edge every time he’s on screen.
