Overview

When his boss is killed, Detroit cop Axel Foley finds evidence that the murderer had ties to a California amusement park called Wonder World. Returning to sunny Beverly Hills once more, Foley reunites with Detective Billy Rosewood to solve the case. Along with Billy's new partner, Detective Jon Flint, they discover that Wonder World is being used as a front for a massive counterfeiting ring.

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Axel Foley is back in Detroit, but things go south during a chop-shop raid when his boss, Inspector Todd, is gunned down. The trail leads Axel back to Beverly Hills, specifically to a massive theme park called WonderWorld. He discovers the park is a front for a massive counterfeiting ring run by the head of security. Axel has to navigate high-tech rides, costumed mascots, and a suspicious park owner to bring his boss's killer to justice. THE PROS The setting is a win for the action sequences. Shooting in an amusement park allows for some punchy set pieces, like the rescue on the "Spider" ride which is an epic bit of stunt work. Bronson Pinchot returns as Serge, and he’s easily the best part of the movie; his new career as a high-end weapons dealer is a laugh. It’s a decent watch if you just want a lighthearted 90s action flick, and the "Annihilator 2000" gadget is a fun addition to Axel’s arsenal. THE CONS It earns a 6/10 because it lacks the grit and edge of the first two films. Eddie Murphy looks a bit tired, and the wise-cracking energy that made Axel Foley famous feels a bit sluggish here. The villain is a bit of a damp squib compared to the previous entries, and the absence of Taggart is felt throughout. It misses a higher mark because it leans too hard into "family-friendly" territory, making the stakes feel low and the humor a bit thin. THE VERDICT A 6/10. Decent for a one-time watch if you're a fan of the series, but it’s the weakest link in the chain. It’s not a vault essential. Go and watch it for Serge’s cameo and the park chaos—it has its moments. THE VIBE Like a lukewarm hot dog at a theme park. It smells like cotton candy, popcorn, and gun smoke.
