    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY A creepy, slow-burning indie horror that trades massive explosions for proper, old-school atmospheric tension. The story follows a young woman who travels out to a completely isolated country house to visit her estranged, eccentric grandmother. Things go sideways incredibly quickly when she realizes the old lady isn't just losing her marbles—she is actually harboring a dark, generational family secret involving ancient spirits that use domestic animals as vessels. THE PROS The tension early on is fantastic, making the quiet country house feel properly eerie and claustrophobic. The lead actress puts in a great, grounded performance, looking genuinely terrified rather than just screaming for the sake of it. The way they use everyday household pets to build a sense of dread is brilliant and will definitely have you looking at your own cat a bit differently before bed. THE CONS It takes a proper long time to actually get anywhere, and the slow pace will definitely test your patience if you are wanting non-stop jump scares. The ending feels remarkably rushed, wrapping up the central family mystery far too quickly with a chaotic finale that leaves a few too many questions unanswered. THE VERDICT A fair 6/10. It is a decent, atmospheric little thriller that manages to deliver some genuine skin-crawling moments before running a bit low on fuel at the end. It grabs a 6 because the acting is sharp and the animal stuff is properly unsettling, but the sluggish middle section stops it from being something you will rush to watch twice. Still a perfectly good option for a quiet night in with the lights off. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Sound Trickery: To make the animals sound completely unnatural, the sound team layered distorted human whispers beneath the audio tracks of the dogs and cats.• Real Isolation: The production team didn't use a studio set, choosing instead to film inside a real, abandoned 18th-century farmhouse to keep the gritty mood completely authentic.• Tight Schedule: Because of a tiny indie budget, the entire movie was shot on location in less than three weeks with a very small cast and crew. THE VIBE Like staying over at your weird auntie's house when the heating breaks down and the dog won't stop staring at the corner of the room. It smells like damp wallpaper, old carpets, and pure paranoia. Creepy, quiet, and slightly chilly.
