⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY A Poacher’s Honor is a tight, 28-minute indie short that takes us back to the basics of medieval storytelling. The plot follows a veteran knight, Garrick IronThorn, and his young squire Corwin as they trek across the kingdom to hunt down three poachers who’ve been illegally thinning the Crown's herd. It’s less about the "big battle" and more about the mentor-mentee dynamic, as Garrick tries to teach Corwin that true strength comes from mental balance, not just swinging a sword. THE PROS The chemistry between Garrick (Grayson Berberich) and Corwin (Jake Strong) is the sincere heart of the film. For a short project, it has a gripping atmosphere that captures that "lonely road" vibe of a classic knight’s quest. The focus on the philosophy of combat over pure action is a refreshing, grounded change of pace from the typical high-fantasy fluff. It’s a "Go To" for fans of low-fantasy who prefer character growth over dragon fire. THE CONS With a runtime of just under 30 minutes, it feels more like a pilot episode for a larger series than a standalone story. Some of the dialogue regarding "mental balance" can get a bit repetitive, making the middle stretch feel a tad languid even for a short.
