⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Eletta is a shy teenager living in a picturesque Italian town, where she serves as the primary link between the hearing world and her deaf family. While her parents and brother rely on her for everything from business negotiations to daily errands, Eletta discovers she has a powerhouse singing voice. When her teacher pushes her to audition for a prestigious music school, she’s torn between her loyalty to her family and her own desperate need to be heard. It’s a remake of 'CODA' and 'La Famille Bélier', but with a distinctly Mediterranean soul. THE PROS Sarah Toscano is a win in her acting debut; she carries the film with a sincerity that makes every awkward moment feel real. The shift to an Italian backdrop—replacing fishing with donkey farming and cheese making—is an epic touch that gives the story a fresh vibe. Using actual deaf actors like Emilio and Carola Insolera brings an authenticity that stops the film from feeling like a hollow imitation. The music is punchy and emotional, especially the final audition scene which remains a guaranteed tear-jerker. It’s a good movie because it captures that specific, messy tension of loving your family while needing to leave them. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because if you’ve seen 'CODA' or the original French film, the plot beats are almost identical, making it feel predictable. Some of the secondary school drama feels a bit like a damp squib compared to the heavy emotional stakes at home.
