⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Happy Gilmore returns to the professional golf tour thirty years after his legendary championship victory. Following a rough patch in his personal life, Happy is out of the game and working a regular job until he needs to raise a massive three hundred thousand dollars to fund his youngest daughter’s elite overseas dance school training. Left with no other choice, he has to dust off his old clubs, clean up his act, and try to replicate his past glory on the green against a brand new generation of golfers. THE PROS The nostalgia factor is massive, and seeing Christopher McDonald return as the delightfully smug, arrogant Shooter McGavin is an absolute joy. Adam Sandler slips back into the short-tempered character effortlessly, delivering the familiar shouting fits that fans love. The film is completely packed to the brim with chaotic cameos from global sports stars, internet personalities, and familiar faces from the original lineup who pop up for some brilliant laugh-out-loud moments. THE CONS The script relies far too heavily on recycling the exact same jokes and catchphrases from the 1996 classic, making a lot of the humor feel incredibly predictable rather than fresh. The pacing can feel a bit disjointed in the middle stretch, as the plot occasionally halts just to shoehorn in another celebrity appearance instead of focusing on the actual story. THE VERDICT A solid 6/10. It is a fun, easy-going nostalgia trip that serves as an entertaining watch for die-hard fans of the original. It gets a 6 because the returning cast members are great fun and the movie delivers exactly the kind of silly, low-stakes comfort food you want from a late-career Sandler comedy. It misses out on a higher score because it plays it entirely safe by leaning on old material, but it is still a decent option for a lazy evening.
