We follow John from his teenage years in 1980s Scotland—a time when his condition was completely misunderstood—through to his adult life (Robert Aramayo) as he struggles with isolation, employment, and the search for connection. It’s a beautifully told story about the power of community and the resilience of a man who refused to be defined by his tics. THE PROS Robert Aramayo delivers an epic, career-defining performance as John, capturing the physical and emotional exhaustion of the condition with total sincerity. Scott Ellis Watson is also a standout as the younger John, making the first part of the movie incredibly moving as we watch his world shift. It’s a 9/10 because it handles a sensitive subject with genuine humor and heart, never veering into "pity" territory. The supporting cast is top tier, with Peter Mullan and Maxine Peake providing a warm, grounded energy that makes the community feel real. The final part, detailing John’s real-life achievements, is a genuine feel-good moment that hits like a ton of bricks in the best way possible.
