Overview

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Elliott (Maisy Stella) is a free-spirited teen ready to leave her family’s cranberry farm for university. During a mushroom trip on her 18th birthday, she comes face-to-face with her 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza). Her "old ass" gives her one cryptic bit of advice: stay away from a boy named Chad. But when Elliott actually meets a Chad who is nothing like she expected, she’s forced to decide whether to follow her future self’s warnings or live her life as it happens. It’s a funny, surprisingly emotional coming-of-age story about the fleeting nature of youth. THE PROS This is a massive win because it avoids the usual cheesy time-travel tropes. Maisy Stella is a natural lead, and her chemistry with Aubrey Plaza is brilliant—Plaza brings her signature dry wit but adds a sincere layer of regret and wisdom that grounds the whole film.
