⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Dan (Jason Segel) is a washed-up director, and Lisa (Samara Weaving) is an actress whose career is mostly "resting." They’re a toxic couple who decide to head to a remote cabin for a "romantic reset," but each has a secret itinerary: murdering the other. Before they can get the first stab in, their bloodbath is gatecrashed by escaped convicts (Timothy Olyphant and Keith Jardine) and a shady guard (Juliette Lewis). Now, the couple that hated each other five minutes ago has to team up to survive a group of professionals who are way better at killing than they are. THE PROS It’s a "Guaranteed Banger" for fans of 87North (the John Wick and Nobody team). Director Jorma Taccone brings that specific MacGruber energy—it’s violent, slapstick, and deeply stupid in the best way possible. Samara Weaving is essentially the modern queen of "getting covered in blood while screaming," and she doesn't disappoint here. The chemistry between her and Segel as they transition from "I want you dead" to "Let’s kill these guys together" is genuinely funny. Timothy Olyphant also steals every scene he's in, chewing the scenery like it’s a five-course meal. THE CONS If you’ve seen the 2021 Norwegian film The Trip (starring Noomi Rapace), you’ve seen this movie. It’s a very faithful remake—sometimes too faithful—meaning the "shocks" won't land if you know the original. The humor is also incredibly mean-spirited in the first half; if you don't enjoy watching a miserable couple belittle each other, the setup might feel like a chore. It’s a 7/10 because it’s a well-executed remake, but it lacks that "spark of original genius" to push it into the 8 or 9 territory. THE VERDICT A solid 7/10 and a great pick for a "Pizza and Beer" movie night. It’s gnarly, fast-paced, and features some of the most creative uses of household appliances as weapons you’ll see this year. It won’t change your life, but it’ll definitely make you think twice about booking a cabin with your ex. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA This is a remake of I Onde Dager (The Trip), and the director of the original, Tommy Wirkola, actually served as a producer on this version. Also, during the "harpoon" sequence (no spoilers, but you'll know it), Jason Segel reportedly had to spend six hours in a harness to get the physics of the "accident" to look perfectly pathetic. Fun fact: This film marks a reunion for Timothy Olyphant and Juliette Lewis, who haven't shared a screen since Catch and Release back in 2006. THE VIBE Like a wedding anniversary that takes place in a blender. It’s messy, loud, and weirdly heart-warming in a "we survived a massacre" kind of way.

THE SUMMARY
