Overview

Wenches Scarlett and Giselle fix each other up for their wedding, in which they would each marry their groom. Upon realizing that both their grooms were the same man, Jack Sparrow, the two wenches found themselves in an auction led by the Auctioneer. This short film serves as a prequel to The Curse of the Black Pearl, and explains just why Jack Sparrow's boat the Jolly Mon was seen sinking at the beginning of the whole story; why the wenches were so upset with him; and how Cotton lost his tongue.

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Set shortly before 'The Curse of the Black Pearl', this punchy short film serves as a prequel to the entire saga. We find the wenches Scarlett (Lauren Maher) and Giselle (Vanessa Branch) in Tortuga, both giddy because they believe they’re about to marry the same man: Jack Sparrow. The excitement quickly turns into a damp squib when they realize the "scoundrel" has actually traded them both to an auctioneer in exchange for a fancy hat. As they find themselves on the auction block, we get the backstory on how Jack’s boat, the Jolly Mon, ended up in such a sorry state and a cheeky hint at how Cotton lost his tongue. THE PROS This is a winner for hardcore fans because it captures that classic Gore Verbinski-era vibe perfectly. James Ward Byrkit (the director) was a conceptual consultant on the original trilogy, and it shows—the look and feel are pure quality. It’s a 7/10 because it bridges the gap between the movies and the original Disneyland ride, finally giving us the story behind the famous "auction scene." Scarlett and Giselle are absolute business here, getting their own moment to shine with some sincere comedic timing. The writing by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio is punchy and fits seamlessly into the lore, making it feel like a genuine piece of the puzzle rather than a cheap extra.
