⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARYA vibrant, fast-paced, and utterly charming British romantic comedy that injects a massive burst of fresh energy into the genre. Set over the course of one chaotic day in South London, the story follows Yas and Dom, two twenty-somethings who cross paths in the middle of an art gallery bathroom. Both dealing with awful, messy breakups, they decide to spend the afternoon walking through the busy streets together, helping each other confront their exes and unexpectedly falling for one another along the way. THE PROSDavid Jonsson and Vivian Oparah are absolutely brilliant together, sharing a natural, witty banter that makes you feel like you are hanging out with real people. Director Raine Allen-Miller does a fantastic job behind the camera, using an incredibly bright, colorful visual style and wide-angle lenses that make South London look like a stunning work of art. The humor is properly sharp and local, packed with laugh-out-loud visual jokes and a fantastic soundtrack that keeps the energy moving at a great pace. THE CONSAt a very tight eighty-two minutes, the movie flies by so fast that a few of the fun supporting characters do not get enough time to shine. The stylized camera work, while looking great, can occasionally feel a little bit hyperactive and distracting during the quieter, more emotional moments. A bizarre flashback scene involving a theatrical reenactment of a breakup goes on a touch too long and briefly slows down the great momentum of their walk. THE VERDICTAn 8/10. It is a brilliant, funny, and beautifully executed British rom-com that completely ditches the old, stuffy cliches of the genre for something fresh and modern. It comfortably secures an 8 because the lead chemistry is top-tier and it shows off London with a wonderful, colorful eye. It only misses out on a higher score because it wraps up a bit too quickly, but it is a massive triumph that will leave you with a huge grin on your face.
