In the posh Coopers Chase retirement village, four unlikely friends—Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Joyce (Celia Imrie), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley), and Ron (Pierce Brosnan)—meet every Thursday to solve cold cases. Their hobby becomes a reality when their dodgy landlord, Ian Ventham (David Tennant), is murdered right on their doorstep. Directed by Chris Columbus, the film is a cozy, lighthearted whodunit that proves being over seventy doesn't mean you've lost your edge—especially when you're a former spy or a union firebrand. THE PROS The casting is absolute business; seeing Mirren, Kingsley, Brosnan, and Imrie share a screen is a genuine treat and the main reason to watch. Helen Mirren brings a dry, sharp wit to Elizabeth that is perfectly balanced by Celia Imrie’s endearingly observant Joyce.
