⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARYThe legendary Pixar gang returns for a fifth outing that trades the usual existential dread of growing up for a very modern battle against the digital age. With Bonnie growing older and struggling to make friends, her attention is completely captured by Lilypad—a shiny new smart tablet that promises to connect her with the cool kids at school. With playtime completely under threat, Sheriff Jessie tries to guide the gang to save Bonnie from her screen, leading to a massive separation that forces Buzz and a returning Woody to team up for a chaotic rescue mission. THE PROSShifting the spotlight to Jessie as the main lead is a brilliant move, giving the film a fresh emotional anchor that handles the franchise's legacy with a lot of respect. The animation is absolutely stunning, showcasing a massive contrast between the warm, textured look of the classic plastic toys and the cold, sleek glare of modern technology. Greta Lee is fantastic voicing the tablet Lilypad, playing her not as an evil villain, but as a deeply passive-aggressive, overly helpful piece of tech that is genuinely funny to watch. THE CONSWhile the screen-time commentary is incredibly relevant, the film can feel a bit preachy and heavy-handed with its message, occasionally playing out like a lecture on why tablets are bad for kids. Bringing Woody back so quickly after his massive, definitive goodbye at the end of the fourth movie feels cheap and slightly undoes the emotional weight of that ending. A massive subplot involving fifty recalled, high-tech Buzz Lightyear clones washing ashore makes the second half incredibly overstuffed and takes away from the main group. THE VERDICTA solid 7/10. It is a visually beautiful and genuinely heartfelt sequel that manages to avoid feeling like a lazy cash grab, even if it cannot quite match the magic of the original trilogy. It comfortably scores a 7 because the humor is sharp, the voice acting remains top-tier, and it tackles a massive real-world issue in a way that will hit home for plenty of parents. It misses a higher mark because the plot relies a bit too much on coincidental twists and familiar beats, but there is still plenty of juice left in the toy box.
