⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY This isn't your typical polite period drama; it’s a brutal autopsy of a marriage that went nuclear. The series focuses on the 1963 divorce of Margaret Campbell, Duchess of Argyll, and her husband Ian. It was a case that shocked the UK, involving accusations of adultery, forgery, and the infamous "headless man" photos. Margaret became the first woman to be publicly "slut-shamed" by the British press and the legal system, but instead of fading away, she stood her ground against a husband who was just as flawed as she was. It’s a sharp look at class, misogyny, and the absolute mess people make of their lives when they stop caring about the consequences. THE PROS Claire Foy is spectacular as Margaret. She brings a fierce, icy charisma to the role, making you sympathize with a woman who is often her own worst enemy. Paul Bettany is equally good as the Duke, playing him with a simmering, entitled nastiness that makes their verbal sparring feel like a championship boxing match. The production is top-tier, capturing the faded grandeur of Inveraray Castle and the stiff, judgmental atmosphere of 1960s London. It’s an 8/10 because it manages to be both a tragic character study and a biting social commentary, refusing to paint anyone as a simple hero or villain. THE CONS It misses a 9 because the pacing can feel a bit rushed across only three episodes. There’s so much history and legal drama to cover that some of the supporting characters feel like they’re just passing through without much impact. It settles at an 8 as the relentless cynicism of the two leads can make it a bit of a cold experience; there’s very little warmth to be found in their relationship, which might make it hard for some viewers to stay invested in their downfall. THE VERDICT A solid 8/10. It’s a stylish, biting, and very well-acted drama that handles a difficult true story with a lot of maturity. It isn't a 9 because of the slightly cramped runtime, but for fans of *The Crown* who want something with more teeth and less politeness, it’s a winner. If you want to see a historical "belter" of a scandal that still feels relevant today, this is the one.
