Alexa & Katie (2018–2020) follows two lifelong best friends as they navigate the typical chaos of teenage life—boys, exams, and social status—alongside Alexa’s health battle. It’s a multi-cam sitcom that witty-ly balances the heavy reality of being a patient with the lighthearted banter of a coming-of-age comedy. The show avoids being overly sentimental, choosing instead to focus on the fierce, 100% authentic bond between the two leads as they refuse to let a diagnosis define their entire world. THE PROS The chemistry between Paris Berelc and Isabel May is spot on; their friendship feels incredibly sincere and is a total win for the show’s heart. It’s a genuine masterclass in how to handle sensitive subject matter for a younger audience without being patronising or "wet." The humour is punchy, and the supporting cast—especially the competitive mums—adds a witty layer of comedy that keeps the energy high-octane. It’s top-tier because it manages to be both a "comfort watch" and a deeply moving story about resilience and loyalty. THE CONS It settles at an 8/10 because the sitcom format, complete with a laughter track, can occasionally feel a bit dated compared to more modern, single-camera dramas in the vault. Some of the subplots involving the younger brother or the school rivals can feel a bit "filler" and hit a Languid Burn compared to the main emotional arc.
