    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Donny Dunn is a struggling comedian working in a London pub who makes the mistake of giving a free cup of tea to a crying woman. That simple act of kindness triggers a relentless, multi-year stalking campaign from Martha, who bombards him with thousands of emails and dozens of voicemails. But this isn’t a standard horror story; it’s a brutal, semi-autobiographical dive into the creator Richard Gadd’s own life. It forces the audience to look at the uncomfortable reality of trauma, sexual assault, and why victims sometimes lean into the very things that are destroying them. THE PROS This is a 9/10 because it’s one of the most raw, uncomfortable things you’ll ever watch. Richard Gadd playing himself adds a layer of honesty that most shows can’t touch. Jessica Gunning is terrifyingly good as Martha—she manages to be both heartbreaking and absolutely chilling in the same breath. The show excels at showing the "grey areas" of stalking; it doesn't pretend Donny is a perfect victim, which makes the whole thing feel far more authentic. The flashback episode in the middle of the series is a punch to the gut that completely changes how you view the entire story. THE CONS It misses a 10/10 because it is an incredibly heavy watch that might be too much for some. It’s relentlessly bleak, and while the humor is there, it’s so dark it can be suffocating. Some of the pacing in the later episodes feels a bit frantic as it tries to wrap up years of trauma into a seven-part series. It stays at a 9 because while it’s a masterpiece of storytelling, its sheer intensity means it’s not a show you’ll ever want to sit through twice. THE VERDICT A 9/10. An "Epic" piece of television that redefined the stalker genre. It isn't a 10 because the emotional toll is so high it’s almost physically draining to finish. It’s a brave, harrowing, and vital series that will stay with you long after you’ve turned the TV off. If you can handle the subject matter, it’s a landmark show in the vault. Anticipated: Half Man (HBO, late 2026). INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • True Numbers: The sheer volume of Martha’s obsession isn't an exaggeration for TV. In real life, Gadd actually received 41,071 emails, 350 hours of voicemails, and 106 pages of letters over the course of four years.• Costume Detail: Jessica Gunning wore the same outfit in several scenes to represent Martha's real-life struggle with hygiene and mental health, a detail Gadd insisted on to keep the portrayal grounded and honest rather than a "Hollywood" version of a stalker.• Stage Beginnings: Before it was a Netflix hit, Baby Reindeer was a one-man stage play that took the Edinburgh Fringe Festival by storm. Gadd performed it in a tiny room, literally running on a treadmill for an hour to symbolize the exhaustion of his experience. THE VIBE Like being stuck in a small room with someone who won't stop whispering in your ear. It smells like stale pub beer and anxiety. It’s claustrophobic, deeply sad, and incredibly brave. It makes you want to lock your doors, delete your social media, and realize that kindness can sometimes come with a massive price tag.
