Bloods follows Maleek (Samson Kayo), a tough-acting, loner paramedic in South London, and his unlikely new partner, Wendy (Jane Horrocks), a bubbly, over-friendly divorcee who just moved down from Nottingham. As they navigate grisly road traffic accidents and bizarre call-outs, they build a sincere, life-supportive bond. The series is a total win for anyone who likes their comedy with a visceral edge and a heart-on-its-sleeve portrayal of the frontline "para-comedics" who keep society running. THE PROS The chemistry between Samson Kayo and Jane Horrocks is a 100% authentic win; despite a 30-year age gap, their "odd couple" dynamic feels sincere and grounded. The supporting cast is a regal archive of British comedy talent, with Lucy Punch as the pining station boss and Julian Barratt as a grieving widower, providing a gripping, cringe-heavy B-plot. It is a total win for its "gallows humor," managing to find the funny in genuinely grim situations without ever losing respect for the real-life heroes of the ambulance service. The writing is sharp, witty, and moves at a breakneck pace, making it the "Go To" binge for fans of broad, yet smart, ensemble sitcoms. THE CONS It hits an 8/10 because the "cringe-factor" can occasionally feel like a bit of a maze that might be a head-scratcher for those who prefer more traditional, lighter humor. For some, the early episodes feel a bit languid as the show finds its footing, with a few slapstick moments feeling like a bit of a damp squib compared to the sharper dialogue. It misses the 9/10 mark only because the two-season archive—while brilliant—left fans wanting more of the "South Hill" crew before it seemingly went on a hiatus, leaving a few character arcs feeling slightly untethered.
