⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY One body, four different eras, and a conspiracy that spans 150 years. In 1890, 1941, 2023, and 2053, four different detectives find the exact same unidentified corpse in a London alleyway—complete with a strange tattoo and a bullet wound through the eye. As each investigator digs into the mystery, they realize their lives are being manipulated by a mysterious political leader across time. It’s a mind-bending mashup of a period drama, a gritty noir, and a futuristic sci-fi that asks if you can truly change the future, or if we are all just loops in a pre-written history. THE PROS This is an 8/10 because it manages to keep four separate plates spinning without dropping a single one. Each era has its own distinct look and feel—from the smog-filled streets of Victorian London to the sterile, high-tech dystopia of the future. Stephen Graham is chilling as Elias Mannix, the man at the centre of it all, giving a performance that is both pathetic and terrifying. The show is incredibly clever, dropping tiny clues in the 19th century that don't pay off until the 21st, making it a dream for viewers who love to theorize. It’s a "belter" because it takes a wild premise and actually sticks the landing with a satisfying, emotional conclusion. THE CONS It misses a 9 because the mid-section can get a bit dizzying. Keeping track of the "who knows what and when" across four timelines requires a whiteboard and a lot of patience. It settles at an 8 because, while the mystery is top-tier, some of the supporting characters in the future timeline feel a bit thinner compared to the brilliantly realized detectives from the past. The logic of the "time loop" also gets a bit thin if you poke at it too hard, relying on a few convenient sci-fi tropes to tie up the loose ends. THE VERDICT A solid 8/10. It’s an ambitious, stylish, and genuinely original thriller that feels like *Line of Duty* meets *Dark*. Sadly, Spencer passed away in 2021 before he could see his complex story brought to life on screen, but the showrunners stayed incredibly faithful to his original "four detectives" concept.• Master of Disguise: To make the transition between eras feel seamless, the production team used the same physical alleyway set in Leeds but redressed it four different times with period-accurate props, lighting, and "grime" to show how London aged over 160 years.• The "Loop" Logic: The writers spent months mapping out the timelines on a massive wall in the production office to ensure that every time a character changed something in the past, the "butterfly effect" was reflected accurately in the future timelines. THE VIBE Like looking at a jigsaw puzzle where the pieces keep moving. It smells like coal smoke, old paper, and ozone. It’s dark, clever, and very addictive. It makes you want to check your family tree, look for hidden tattoos, and realize that tomorrow might have already happened.
