    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Netflix’s Devil May Cry is basically what happens when somebody pours heavy metal, pizza grease, demon blood, and pure early-2000s edge into a blender and somehow makes it work. Dante—the white-haired demon hunter with a coat longer than your rent payments—is back flipping around like gravity personally offended him while blasting monsters with twin pistols and enough sarcasm to power a small city. The story follows Dante getting dragged into another demonic catastrophe involving ancient relics, shady organisations, and villains who definitely spend too much time monologuing in mirrors. THE PROS The action absolutely rips. This thing moves like it’s had six energy drinks and no parental supervision. Fight scenes are stylish without becoming incomprehensible visual soup, and the animation team clearly understood the assignment: make Dante look impossibly cool at all times. They succeed magnificently. The soundtrack is another massive win too—full of aggressive guitars and chaotic energy that feels ripped straight out of a teenager’s illegally downloaded MP3 collection from 2004. Crucially though, the show understands Dante himself. He’s funny, cocky, childish, weirdly lonely, and permanently acting like he doesn’t care when he obviously does. That balance is why the character still works after all these years. THE CONS It lands at an 8/10 because the storytelling occasionally takes a backseat to looking cool as hell. Some emotional moments don’t get enough breathing room before another explosion or sword fight kicks the door down. Certain supporting characters also feel underdeveloped compared to Dante stealing every ounce of oxygen whenever he appears onscreen. It misses the 9/10 mark because while it’s ridiculously entertaining, it never quite reaches the deeper emotional punch or narrative consistency of the very best anime adaptations. THE VERDICT An 8/10. Loud, ridiculous, stylish chaos in the best possible way. It remembers something loads of modern adaptations forget: fun matters. This isn’t embarrassed by its own insanity—it leans directly into it wearing sunglasses indoors. Fans of the games will be grinning like idiots half the runtime, while newcomers get a wildly entertaining demon-slaying rollercoaster with enough attitude to melt leather jackets. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • The animation team reportedly studied real martial arts tricking videos and gun-fu choreography to make Dante’s combat feel more fluid and arrogant rather than traditionally “anime heroic.”• Dante’s coat physics became such a running joke during production that animators apparently referred to it internally as “the final boss.”• The soundtrack intentionally leans into early-2000s nu-metal and industrial influences because the creators wanted the series to preserve the chaotic energy of the original games instead of modernising it too heavily.• Several action scenes were storyboarded first around music tracks before dialogue was even written, which explains why some fights feel almost like violent music videos.• Adi Shankar reportedly pushed hard to keep Dante sarcastic and scruffy instead of turning him into another emotionally tortured “chosen one” archetype. A genuinely wise decision for once. THE VIBE Like necking cheap energy drinks at midnight while somebody shreds electric guitar solos in the background and demons crash through the ceiling for absolutely no reason. Pure chaotic cool.
