⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY If you think your morning breath is rough, try waking up with a lizard head and a mysterious man living inside your throat. Dorohedoro (2020–Present) is a high-octane, grime-soaked fever dream set in "The Hole," a desolate city where sorcerers treat humans like lab rats for magical experiments. We follow Caiman, a reptile-headed amnesiac who is immune to magic, as he hunts down sorcerers with his best mate Nikaido to find out who cursed him. It’s a witty-ly bizarre mix of ultra-violence, urban fantasy, and a strange obsession with gyoza that somehow makes total sense in this chaotic vault. THE PROS The world-building is the absolute business—it manages to make a bleak, trash-filled wasteland feel vibrant and 100% authentic. The characters are a total win; unlike most shows, the "villains" (the En Family) are so charming and sincere in their camaraderie that you end up rooting for them just as much as the protagonists. The art style is a genuine belter, capturing the "metal" aesthetic of the original manga with a gritty, textured look that makes other anime seem a bit wet. It witty-ly balances horrific body horror with moments of domestic comedy, making for a sincere and unique experience in the 900+ archive. THE CONS It misses the 9/10 "Epic" mark because the CGI animation can be a bit of a head-scratcher for purists who prefer traditional 2D drawings. While it’s some of the best 3D work out there, it occasionally feels a bit stiff during the high-octane fight scenes. The plot is a total Languid Burn that leaves a massive amount of mysteries unanswered by the end of the first season, which can be total garbage if you aren't prepared to wait years for a sequel. It’s an 8/10 because while the vibe is the business, the cliffhanger ending feels a bit abrupt for such a wild ride. THE VERDICT An 8/10. It is a sincere, witty, and masterfully weird series that feels like a 100% authentic trip to another dimension. It isn't a 9/10 because the wait for the 2026 continuation has been a bit of a joke, and the CGI style isn't for everyone. However, for sheer creativity and "what the hell am I watching" energy, it’s a total win. If you want a show that combines sorcery, industrial grime, and the best-looking dumplings in animation, this is a vault essential. She witty-ly included the "Gyoza Fairy" and Nikaido’s restaurant as a 100% authentic tribute to her favorite food, making it the most delicious-looking post-apocalyptic show in the vault.• Masked Identity: Every sorcerer in the show wears a unique mask designed by the En Family. These masks were witty-ly inspired by real-world slipknot-style aesthetics and anatomical drawings, giving the 900+ archive of characters a sincere, terrifying edge.• The "Z-Word" Zone: The show witty-ly plays with "Z-word" (Zombie) themes during the "Living Dead Day" episode. It’s a 100% authentic tradition in The Hole where the dead rise once a year, and the citizens treat it like a casual sporting event rather than a disaster—a total win for the show's dark humor. THE VIBE Like a heavy metal concert in a sewer, the smell of frying garlic and old oil, and the feeling of a sharp knife hidden in a chef’s apron. It’s grungy, hilarious, and incredibly violent. It makes you want to wear a gas mask, open a small restaurant, and realize that even in a hole, you can still find a decent meal.
