Overview

Anthony, a real temp, is hired at Rockin' Grandma's Hot Sauce (a fake company) for its annual retreat - the final one for the company's CEO Doug before retirement. Doug's son Dougie Jr. struggles to prove his leadership abilities while a polished private-equity team courts the company for acquisition.

    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY The "hoax sitcom" format returns for a second round, moving from the courtroom to the corporate world. Anthony Norman is a regular guy who thinks he’s been hired as a temp worker to help manage the annual retreat for "Rockin' Grandma’s Hot Sauce," a family-run business in the middle of a transition. What Anthony doesn't know is that the company is fake, the retreat is a setup, and everyone from the retiring CEO to the eccentric coworkers is a professional actor. As corporate buyout offers clash with family values, Anthony finds himself caught in the middle of a meticulously planned chaos where every team-building exercise is a test of his character. THE PROS This season is an honest success because it proves the *Jury Duty* formula wasn't just a one-hit wonder. It hits an 8 because Anthony is a fantastic "hero"; he's incredibly kind and grounded, making the elaborate pranks feel more like heart-warming social experiments than mean-spirited tricks. The cast is a total highlight, especially Alex Bonifer as the directionless son, Dougie Jr., who manages to be both hilarious and surprisingly sympathetic. The shift to a "company retreat" setting is a smart move, allowing for more varied locations and wilder scenarios than the first season's courtroom. It’s an epic feat of improv and planning that stays consistently funny while keeping a sincere heart at its center. THE CONS It stays at an 8 because the "secret" is a bit harder to protect the second time around; since the first season was a massive hit, there’s a constant tension wondering if Anthony has already caught on. It misses a higher mark because some of the corporate-satire subplots can feel a bit like a slog compared to the personal interactions between Anthony and the staff. A few of the staged "crises" feel a little more forced and theatrical than the grounded drama of the original trial. While the "Other Anthony" gag is a fair shout for a laugh, some of the repetitive workplace jokes can feel a bit thin over the course of the eight-episode run. THE VERDICT 8/10. A smart, funny, and incredibly unique follow-up. It’s an honest win for fans of the original and a great result for anyone who loves seeing how a truly good person reacts to a world gone mad. THE VIBE Like a forced team-building exercise that actually turns out to be fun. It smells of wood smoke, expensive hot sauce, and the metallic tang of a hidden camera rig.
