    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is one of those shows that walks into the room wearing leather trousers, expensive perfume, and an ego the size of Jupiter. Set inside a futuristic luxury resort where guests can supposedly fulfil any fantasy imaginable, the series follows a collection of wealthy clients, burned-out employees, and deeply suspicious executives hiding secrets behind polished smiles and neon lighting. Naturally, the place is less “dream holiday” and more “emotional collapse with mood lighting.” What starts as glossy sci-fi satire slowly mutates into paranoia, obsession, and people making catastrophically bad decisions while pretending they’re enlightened. THE PROS Visually, it’s an absolute feast. The production design is gorgeous in that cold, sterile “rich people definitely eat tiny portions on black plates” sort of way. The soundtrack slaps too—lots of hypnotic synth and pulsing club energy that gives the whole thing a weirdly seductive atmosphere. There are also flashes of genuinely sharp satire about wealth, loneliness, and modern escapism. When the show locks onto those themes, it suddenly feels clever and dangerous. A few performances rise well above the material too, especially the resort staff characters who look permanently one inconvenience away from setting the building on fire. THE CONS It lands at a 6/10 because beneath all the glossy style, the story starts running on fumes surprisingly quickly. The pacing drags badly in the middle episodes, with characters endlessly whispering vague philosophical nonsense at each other like they’re auditioning for a perfume advert. Several twists are visible from orbit, and the show becomes increasingly convinced it’s saying something revolutionary when half the time it’s just rediscovering ideas better sci-fi tackled years ago. It misses the 7/10 mark because despite all the ambition, it never fully connects emotionally. You admire it more than you actually enjoy it. THE VERDICT A frustrating 6/10. Stylish, intriguing, occasionally brilliant… but also painfully self-indulgent. There’s a much tighter, sharper sci-fi thriller buried somewhere underneath all the neon existentialism. Worth a watch if you love slow-burn dystopian drama and don’t mind a bit of pretentiousness creeping into your entertainment like an unwanted house guest. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • The resort interiors were reportedly inspired by luxury wellness retreats in Iceland and ultra-exclusive Tokyo capsule hotels, which explains why every room looks both beautiful and faintly unsettling.• Several actors admitted they struggled keeping straight faces during some of the more “deep philosophical” dialogue scenes because the scripts occasionally went full university philosophy student after two espressos.• The creators intentionally avoided showing traditional clocks throughout the resort to make the environment feel psychologically disorientating and detached from reality.• A large section of the soundtrack was recorded using analogue synthesisers from the late 1970s because the composers wanted the future to sound strangely nostalgic instead of clean and modern.• Crew members reportedly started jokingly referring to the series as “Sexy Black Mirror” halfway through production, which honestly tells you everything you need to know. THE VIBE Like sipping a £22 cocktail in a luxury spa while quietly realising everybody around you might either be lying, spying, or having a nervous breakdown. Glossy, eerie, and slightly up its own arse.
