    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Set in the aftermath of Godzilla’s 2014 smackdown in San Francisco, the world is reeling from the discovery that giant monsters are real. We follow half-siblings Cate (Anna Sawai) and Kentaro (Ren Watabe) as they dig into their father’s mysterious connection to the secretive organization Monarch. The story jumps between the modern day and the 1950s, where a younger Lee Shaw (Wyatt Russell) and his team are first discovering the Titans. As the siblings track down the older Lee Shaw (Kurt Russell), they fall down a rabbit hole of government secrets, family betrayals, and massive creatures that have been hiding in the shadows for decades. THE PROS The biggest result here is the dual-casting of Kurt and Wyatt Russell as Lee Shaw across different eras; it’s an epic gimmick that actually works because they share the same mannerisms and grit. It hits an 8 because it manages to make the human drama feel just as important as the kaiju action, which is a rare feat for this franchise. The 1950s storyline is a total highlight, giving off serious Indiana Jones energy as the original Monarch team discovers the first hints of the Titan ecosystem. The visual effects are top-tier, especially when Big G himself shows up—he feels heavy, terrifying, and honest to his cinematic scale. It’s a smart expansion of the MonsterVerse that bridges the gap between the movies with real style.
