⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Based on the terrifying true events of the 1987 Goiânia accident in Brazil, this limited series follows the fallout after two men scavenge a discarded medical device from an abandoned clinic. Unaware they’ve cracked open a capsule of Cesium-137, they sell the "glowing" blue dust to a junkyard owner, who shares it with family and friends. What starts as a curious discovery quickly turns into a nightmare as people begin falling ill. A small team of doctors and physicists, led by Márcio (Johnny Massaro), has to race against time and government red tape to track down every speck of the radioactive material before it poisons the entire city. THE PROS This show is a massive achievement in grounded, slow-burn tension. It hits a 9 because it avoids the typical "disaster movie" tropes and instead focuses on the quiet, creeping horror of an invisible killer. Johnny Massaro is a total highlight as the physicist who first realizes the scale of the crisis; his frustration with the slow-moving authorities feels entirely honest and keeps you hooked. The production design is epic, perfectly capturing the 1980s Brazilian setting and the stark, sterile terror of the decontamination zones. It’s a smart, pained look at how a simple act of curiosity can lead to a national tragedy, making it a fair shout for the most gripping drama of 2026 so far. THE CONS It stays at a 9 because the pacing can feel a bit like a slog in the middle episodes, as the show spends a lot of time on the technical side of tracking the radiation. It misses a higher mark because some of the secondary political characters feel a bit flat, serving mostly as obstacles for the heroes rather than real people with their own motivations. While the focus on the victims is sincere and pained, the sheer amount of suffering on screen can make it a heavy watch that might be too much for some. A few of the subplots involving the families of the victims could have been trimmed to keep the main race-against-time plot moving a bit faster. THE VERDICT 9/10. A pained, honest, and expertly crafted look at a real-life catastrophe. It’s an epic piece of storytelling that prioritizes human impact over flashy effects.
