Sunny follows Suzie (Rashida Jones), an American expat whose life is upended when her husband and son vanish in a mysterious plane crash. Her only consolation prize? A "domestic bot" named Sunny, gifted by her husband's creepy tech colleagues. As Suzie and Sunny form an unlikely bond, they uncover a dark corporate conspiracy involving robot fight clubs, the Yakuza, and the truth about Suzie's "refrigerator salesman" husband. By April 2026, it’s remembered as a stylish, "one-season wonder" that left us with a massive cliffhanger and a lot of unanswered questions. THE PROS The "odd couple" dynamic between Suzie and Sunny is an absolute winner. Rashida Jones delivers a sincere, prickly performance that perfectly offsets the robot's emotive, giant-eyed innocence (voiced with brilliant comedic timing by Joanna Sotomura). The production design is a Masterpiece; Japan is filmed with a lush, slightly futuristic lens that makes every cocktail bar and back-alley feel 100% authentic. It’s a gripping blend of dark comedy and sci-fi thriller—think *Severance* meets *Big Hero 6* but with more swearing and existential dread. The writing is sharp, witty, and manages to make a machine feel more human than most of the people Suzie encounters. THE CONS It hits an 8/10 because it’s a solid "good watch," but the pacing can occasionally feel like a Languid Burn. Some of the middle episodes meander through the "Junk League" robot fights, which might feel like a head-scratcher for those wanting to get straight to the conspiracy.
