⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY If you thought the heist was over, think again. The Bad Guys: The Series (2025–Present) serves as a high-energy prequel to the hit DreamWorks film, taking us back to the "amateur" days of Mr. Wolf and his crew of mismatched outlaws. Set in a version of LA where humans and animals coexist, the show focuses on the gang's early attempts to make the "Worst of the Worst" list while staying one step ahead of the law. It’s a colorful, fast-paced caper that explores how a pickpocketing wolf, a cynical snake, and a tech-savvy spider became the most notorious team in the city. THE PROS The animation style is a total win; it maintains that slick, illustrative look from the films that feels fresh and 100% authentic to the source material. The series is the business when it comes to character dynamics, witty-ly expanding on the brotherhood between Wolf and Snake before their big reformation. It’s a genuine belter for younger audiences, packed with high-octane heist sequences and clever gadgets that make every episode feel like a mini Mission: Impossible. The voice cast, while different from the movies, delivers a sincere performance that honors the original personalities perfectly. THE CONS It misses the 8 or 9 mark because it feels a bit wet compared to the cinematic scale of the movies. Without the original A-list voice cast (like Sam Rockwell and Awkwafina), some of the banter feels a bit less punchy and more "standard cartoon." It’s a bit of a head-scratcher why some of the heists feel lower-stakes, and the humor can occasionally lean into total garbage territory for older viewers who enjoyed the movie’s sharper edge.
