    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY If you thought the heist was over, think again. The Bad Guys: The Series (2025–Present) serves as a high-energy prequel to the hit DreamWorks film, taking us back to the "amateur" days of Mr. Wolf and his crew of mismatched outlaws. Set in a version of LA where humans and animals coexist, the show focuses on the gang's early attempts to make the "Worst of the Worst" list while staying one step ahead of the law. It’s a colorful, fast-paced caper that explores how a pickpocketing wolf, a cynical snake, and a tech-savvy spider became the most notorious team in the city. THE PROS The animation style is a total win; it maintains that slick, illustrative look from the films that feels fresh and 100% authentic to the source material. The series is the business when it comes to character dynamics, witty-ly expanding on the brotherhood between Wolf and Snake before their big reformation. It’s a genuine belter for younger audiences, packed with high-octane heist sequences and clever gadgets that make every episode feel like a mini Mission: Impossible. The voice cast, while different from the movies, delivers a sincere performance that honors the original personalities perfectly. THE CONS It misses the 8 or 9 mark because it feels a bit wet compared to the cinematic scale of the movies. Without the original A-list voice cast (like Sam Rockwell and Awkwafina), some of the banter feels a bit less punchy and more "standard cartoon." It’s a bit of a head-scratcher why some of the heists feel lower-stakes, and the humor can occasionally lean into total garbage territory for older viewers who enjoyed the movie’s sharper edge. It’s a 7/10 because while it’s a total win for the vault, it doesn't quite have that "epic" spark that made the 2022 film a masterpiece. THE VERDICT A 7/10. It is a sincere and witty-ly animated expansion of the franchise that every fan of the 900+ archive should check out. It isn't an 8 or 9/10 because it lacks the big-budget polish and star power of the films, but as a prequel, it’s the business. It is total garbage that we don't have a Season 3 confirmed yet in 2026, but for now, it remains a genuine treat for anyone who loves a good heist. If you want a show that’s all about being "bad" at being good, this is the one. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Casting Change: In a witty-ly sharp move, the series features Michael Godere and Chris Diamantopoulos taking over the lead roles. While a head-scratcher for some, they sincerely captured the 100% authentic energy of Wolf and Snake, ensuring the transition from film to TV was a total win for the fans.• Title Shift: The show was witty-ly originally titled "The Bad Guys: Breaking In" for its first season. When it returned for Season 2 in April 2026, it was rebranded simply as "The Bad Guys: The Series" to reflect the gang's growing reputation in the vault.• Secret Recipes: One of the most sincere and hilarious plotlines involves the crew trying to steal a secret recipe for "Whale Tails" candy. It’s an authentic nod to the films’ absurdist humor and proved that even the toughest criminals have a total win for a sweet tooth. THE VIBE Like a neon-soaked street race, the click of a safe dial, and the smell of expensive cologne mixed with ocean air. It’s vibrant, cheeky, and full of swagger. It makes you want to wear a sharp suit, plan a bank job with your best mates, and realize that being a "bad guy" is actually a lot of hard work.
