⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY A dark, deeply unsettling British thriller that dives headfirst into isolation and mass hysteria. Claire is a seemingly content high school English teacher whose life completely derails when she begins hearing a low, continuous humming sound that nobody else can perceive. As the relentless noise triggers intense nosebleeds and insomnia, her dismissive family begins to pull away. Desperate for validation, she forms a tight, taboo bond with Kyle, one of her students who hears the exact same frequency. Together, they are drawn into a fringe support group of "low-hummers" led by a charismatic couple who view the noise not as a curse, but as a transcendent gift for a chosen few. THE PROS Rebecca Hall is a complete revelation, anchoring the entire show with a remarkably tense, raw performance that perfectly captures a woman teetering on the absolute edge of sanity. Breakthrough newcomer Ollie West matches her energy brilliantly, bringing an enigmatic, vulnerable gravity to their deeply intense platonic connection. Director Janicza Bravo and the sound design team pull off a masterclass in atmospheric dread, utilizing low-frequency, pulsating drones and claustrophobic wide shots that burrow right under your skin, making you feel every bit of Claire's agoraphobic paranoia. THE CONS The writing can feel a bit mechanical and rigid as the story pivots from a grounded medical mystery into high-intensity cult drama and conspiracy territory. The finale takes a rather hyperbolic, melodramatic turn that might feel incredibly anticlimactic or frustrating if you are expecting a neat, clear-cut resolution to what the hum actually is, while Claire's husband and daughter are written with a bit too much flat, one-dimensional hostility. THE VERDICT A solid 7/10. It is a haunting, beautifully shot mood piece that manages to take everyday suburban boredom to a deeply nightmarish level.
