⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY An Irishman wakes up in a hospital in the Australian outback with a massive headache and absolutely zero memory of who he is. Known only as "The Man," he has to piece together his identity while being hunted across the desert by a relentless tank truck and a crew of eccentric assassins. The first season is a dusty, high-stakes mystery in the heat of Australia, while the second season shifts the chaos back to Ireland as his dark past finally catches up with him. It’s a twisty, black-comedy thriller that asks a very uncomfortable question: if you found out you were a villain in your past life, would you still try to be the hero now? THE PROS This is an 8/10 because Jamie Dornan is exceptional as the confused but lethal lead. He perfectly handles the shift from terrified amnesiac to someone who clearly knows how to handle a weapon. The chemistry between him and Danielle Macdonald—who plays the incredibly likable and patient Constable Helen Chambers—gives the show its heart. The series excels at mixing brutal violence with a quirky, Coen-brothers style of humor that keeps the mood from getting too bleak. The scenery shift between seasons is a great touch, too, moving from the vast, orange emptiness of the Outback to the lush, moody greens of the Irish coast. THE CONS It misses a 9 because the middle episodes can occasionally feel like they’re spinning their wheels. While the mystery is gripping, the plot sometimes relies on "quirky" side characters who feel like they’re there just to pad out the runtime. Season 2, while great, loses a bit of that desperate "fish-out-of-water" energy that made the first season so unique. It settles at an 8 because, despite some pacing dips, it remains one of the most original and bingeable thrillers in the vault. THE VERDICT A solid 8/10. It’s a sharp, stylish, and often hilarious mystery that treats its audience to plenty of genuine surprises. It isn't a 9 because the pacing can be a bit hit-and-miss, but for fans of *Fargo* or *The Fugitive*, it’s a total winner. With the second season having wrapped up and no current plans for a third as of May 2026, it stands as a complete and satisfying "belter" of a story. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Passport Puns: In the first season, the names on the fake passports are actually a mix of the Spice Girls' real names. Helen eventually figures out who the mystery woman is by deducing which Spice Girl name is missing from the list.• Built from Scratch: The production built a fully functional petrol station in the middle of the Australian Flinders Ranges specifically for the show. It looked so real that tourists actually tried to pull over and fill up their cars while they were filming.• Viking Connection: In Season 2, the cafe where many of the scenes were filmed is actually part of a standing set in Wicklow, Ireland, that was originally built for the series *Vikings*. THE VIBE Like waking up in the wrong bed after a very long night. It smells like hot dust, cheap petrol, and Irish rain. It’s tense, weirdly funny, and a bit dizzying. It makes you want to double-check your ID, avoid large trucks, and realize that your past is never as far behind you as you think.
