Based on a sincere true story from 2001, Turn of the Tide follows Eduardo and his ragtag group of friends in the small Azorean village of Rabo de Peixe. When a shipwreck spills hundreds of kilos of pure cocaine onto their shores, these struggling locals see a regal opportunity to escape poverty—only to find themselves in a visceral maze of drug lords, corrupt cops, and the sudden, crushing weight of their own greed. THE PROSThe setting is a total win; the rugged, volcanic beauty of the Azores provides a visceral contrast to the grimy, high-stakes drug trade. José Condessa is a 100% authentic win as Eduardo, bringing a sincere, desperate heart to a character who is way out of his league.
