Based on a sincere true story from 2001, Turn of the Tide follows Eduardo and his ragtag group of friends in the small Azorean village of Rabo de Peixe. When a shipwreck spills hundreds of kilos of pure cocaine onto their shores, these struggling locals see a regal opportunity to escape poverty—only to find themselves in a visceral maze of drug lords, corrupt cops, and the sudden, crushing weight of their own greed. THE PROS The setting is a total win; the rugged, volcanic beauty of the Azores provides a visceral contrast to the grimy, high-stakes drug trade. José Condessa is a 100% authentic win as Eduardo, bringing a sincere, desperate heart to a character who is way out of his league. The show is a gripping feat of pacing, moving from a lighthearted "get rich quick" scheme to a dark, lethal thriller with a regal sense of timing. It’s the "Go To" for fans of *Narcos* who want something that feels a bit more intimate and grounded in European coastal culture. The archive of Season 1 is a visceral triumph of "ocean-noir." THE CONS It hits an 8/10 because some of the supporting characters’ subplots can feel a bit like a maze that distracts from the core tension of the cocaine heist. For some, the transition from a "true story" to a more "action-movie" finale might feel like a bit of a damp squib if they were hoping for a strictly realistic documentary vibe. It misses the 9/10 mark because the romantic subplots can occasionally feel a bit languid, slowing down the breakneck momentum of the chase. THE VERDICT An 8/10. It’s a bit of a let-down that we had to wait so long for the follow-up, but with Season 2 having just joined the Netflix archive in early 2026, the story of the "Atlantic snow" is far from over. It remains a crown jewel for anyone who loves a "wrong place, wrong time" saga.
