⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), a nurse practitioner and midwife, moves from the frantic pace of Los Angeles to the remote town of Virgin River in Northern California. She’s looking for a fresh start after a series of pained personal tragedies, but she quickly realizes that small-town life isn't as simple as she hoped. Between a grumpy local doctor, a brooding bar owner with a military past named Jack (Martin Henderson), and a town full of quirky, meddling neighbors, Mel has to heal her own heart while helping a community that has plenty of its own secrets. THE PROS This is a great series because it’s the ultimate "comfort watch." It hits a 7 because it’s amazing at making you feel like you’ve been wrapped in a warm blanket. The chemistry between Mel and Jack is a total highlight; it’s a slow-burn romance that feels honest and grounded in their shared trauma. The scenery is stunning, with the lush forests and river views making the town feel like a place you’d actually want to escape to. It’s a sincere show that handles heavy topics like grief and PTSD with care, and it’s a fair shout for the most addictive "cosy drama" on TV right now. THE CONS It stays at a 7 because the pacing can feel like a bit of a slog, with storylines that seem to stretch across multiple seasons despite only representing a few months in "show time." It misses a higher mark because the sheer amount of drama—from secret babies to mysterious shootings—can be an honest head-scratcher and starts to feel a bit like a soap opera after a while. Some of the subplots involving the town’s older residents can feel a bit thin and repetitive compared to the main romance. While it's great for binging, the predictable nature of the cliffhangers can sometimes feel a bit pained and forced. THE VERDICT 7/10.
