    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY This three-part Netflix docuseries, released in May 2025, is a harrowing deep dive into the lives and depraved crimes of Britain’s most notorious husband-and-wife serial killers. Using previously unreleased police video and unheard audio recordings of Fred West, the series meticulously pieces together the 1994 investigation into 25 Cromwell Street. From the initial discovery of their daughter Heather’s remains to the excavating of the "House of Horrors," it features rare interviews with victims’ families—some speaking publicly for the first time—and details the pained reality of the trial that eventually put Rose West behind bars for life. THE PROS This is an amazing series for true crime purists because it provides the most definitive and honest look at the case to date. It hits a 7 because the use of the "killer’s own words" through archival audio is a total highlight; hearing Fred West’s casual, pained tone while discussing the unthinkable is chilling and effective. The interviews with family members like Belinda Mott and Dezra Chambers are sincere and heavy-hitting, shifting the focus away from the "celebrity" of the killers and back to the pained lives of the victims. It’s a smart, well-constructed documentary that doesn’t just recap the crimes but explores how Gloucestershire Constabulary managed to build a case of such epic scale under intense public scrutiny. THE CONS It stays at a 7 because, for many, the material is just a bit of a slog to get through due to the sheer level of graphic detail regarding child abuse and torture. It misses a higher mark because some critics have found the series an honest head-scratcher, questioning if there’s really anything new to be gained from revisiting such pained trauma. The pacing in the final episode, "The Trial," is a fair shout for slower than the first two, focusing heavily on the legal logistics which might feel like a bit of a slog compared to the intense mystery of the excavations. While the production is amazing, the lack of a deeper look into the "systemic failures" that allowed the Wests to operate for twenty years was a pained omission for some viewers. THE VERDICT 7/10. A dark, smart, and pained definitive history of a British nightmare. It’s an amazing result for anyone looking for the "final word" on the case, but it’s a fair shout for the most difficult watch on the site.
