⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY This three-part Netflix docuseries dives into the pitch-black history of Fred and Rose West, the married serial killers who turned their Gloucester home at 25 Cromwell Street into a literal house of horrors. Between 1967 and 1987, the pair abducted, tortured, and murdered at least twelve young women and girls—including their own children. Using recently discovered police interview recordings and visceral first-hand accounts from lawyers and survivors, the series traces the investigation from the first search warrant in 1994 to the trial that shocked the nation. THE PROS This is a 6/10 because it manages to find a few new pieces of a very old, very dark puzzle. The centerpiece of the documentary is the previously unheard audio and unseen video of Fred West's police interviews. Hearing him calmly describe his depravity in his own voice is chilling and provides a level of insight that older documentaries lacked. The series is also commendable for its sobriety; it avoids the "flashy" editing of modern true crime and focuses on the sober testimonies of the police and journalists who were actually there.
