We follow a young woman named Kael (Storm Reid) living in a near-future suburb that has been cordoned off as a "quarantine zone" for a mysterious, non-hostile alien entity that crashed years prior. When a shadowy private military firm decides to move in and "harvest" the creature for its bio-tech, Kael realizes the alien—which she’s been secretly feeding—is more sentient than anyone believes. It’s a tense, localized look at first contact that trades massive explosions for a claustrophobic, survivalist atmosphere. THE PROS Storm Reid is a total standout here, carrying the emotional weight of the film and making her bond with the alien feel incredibly sincere. The creature design is top-tier, moving away from standard "little green men" for something more biological and unsettling that feels like a real Blomkamp creation. It’s a 7/10 because the first part of the movie does a fantastic job of building world-weary tension, making the futuristic slums feel lived-in and honest. The practical effects used for the alien’s interactions with the environment are spot on, adding a layer of realism that CGI usually misses.
