⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Directed by Neill Blomkamp, this is a gritty, high-concept sci-fi thriller that feels like a spiritual successor to District 9. We follow a young woman named Kael (Storm Reid) living in a near-future suburb that has been cordoned off as a "quarantine zone" for a mysterious, non-hostile alien entity that crashed years prior. When a shadowy private military firm decides to move in and "harvest" the creature for its bio-tech, Kael realizes the alien—which she’s been secretly feeding—is more sentient than anyone believes. It’s a tense, localized look at first contact that trades massive explosions for a claustrophobic, survivalist atmosphere. THE PROS Storm Reid is a total standout here, carrying the emotional weight of the film and making her bond with the alien feel incredibly sincere. The creature design is top-tier, moving away from standard "little green men" for something more biological and unsettling that feels like a real Blomkamp creation.
