⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Following the death of Superman, intelligence officer Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) assembles Task Force X: a "dirty dozen" of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated supervillains. The roster includes expert marksman Deadshot (Will Smith), the unhinged Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and a handful of other misfits with bombs implanted in their necks. Their first mission? Stop an ancient, possessed witch known as Enchantress from destroying the world with a giant sky-beam. It’s a neon-soaked, gritty anti-hero flick that tries to find the "good" in the worst people imaginable while dodging the Joker’s interference. THE PROS Margot Robbie is an absolute win as Harley Quinn; she owns every second she’s on screen with a sincere, chaotic energy that defined the character for a decade. Will Smith brings a total belter of a performance as Deadshot, providing the film’s emotional anchor through his desire to see his daughter. When the squad actually gets a moment to sit in a bar and "shoot the shit," the movie feels like a sincere, character-driven war story. The soundtrack is a celebratory explosion of classic rock and hip-hop that keeps the energy high, and Viola Davis is the business as the cold, calculating Waller. THE CONS It earns a 6/10 because it’s a bit of a head-scratcher how a street-level team of "guys with boomerangs" is expected to fight an all-powerful moon-goddess. The villain, Enchantress, feels like a sincere CGI mess, and her plan is about as generic as they come.
