⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY This is the pinnacle of the shaky-cam era and the absolute business when it comes to spy trilogies. Jason Bourne is still zig-zagging across the globe, but this time he is the one doing the hunting. He is finally closing in on the secrets of his origin, forcing the CIA’s top brass into a total panic as he dismantles their new "Blackbriar" program piece by piece. From the rooftops of Tangier to the crowded streets of New York, it is a relentless, heart-pounding conclusion to David Webb’s search for his own identity. THE PROS The pacing is a absolute win; the film hits the ground running at Waterloo Station and literally does not stop for breath until the final credits roll. Paul Greengrass delivers some of the most intense action ever filmed, specifically the Tangier rooftop chase and the subsequent bathroom brawl, which is a sincere masterclass in "use whatever is lying around" combat. Matt Damon is at his absolute peak here, portraying Bourne as a lethal, silent ghost who is always three steps ahead of the big screens and satellites. It is a celebratory explosion of kinetic energy that manages to tie up every loose end with a satisfying, gritty bow. THE CONS It earns a 9/10 because, while it is a masterfully crafted belter, the frantic "shaky cam" editing is turned up to such an extreme level it might make you feel a bit dizzy if you aren't prepared for it. It misses the 10/10 epic status only because it follows the established Bourne formula so perfectly that there aren't many surprises left—you know he’s going to outsmart the room, you know there’s going to be a car chase, and you know the CIA will look incompetent. It is perfection within its genre, but it doesn't quite have the emotional "first time" magic of Identity. THE VERDICT A 9/10. This is an outstanding film and quite possibly the best action movie of the 2000s. It is a genuine, adrenaline-soaked belter that sets the gold standard for how to finish a story. Go and watch this movie because we are telling you it is epic—it is a vault essential that proves you don't need capes or superpowers to be an absolute legend. If that Moby track kicking in at the end doesn't give you goosebumps, you’ve probably got no pulse. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Real Crowd Chaos: The opening scene at Waterloo Station was filmed using hidden cameras and real commuters; the "CIA agents" had to navigate around actual Londoners who had no idea a massive blockbuster was being filmed right next to them.• Bookish Brawl: In the legendary Tangier fight, Bourne famously uses a rolled-up book as a weapon. This was a nod to the first film’s pen fight and was choreographed to show that Bourne can turn literally anything into a lethal tool.• Script on the Fly: Matt Damon has witty-ly revealed that the script was often being written while they were filming, with scenes being figured out on the morning of the shoot to keep the energy as raw and immediate as possible. THE VIBE Like a cold espresso shot, the smell of rain on hot London pavement, and the sound of a burner phone ringing in a crowded square. It is frantic, intelligent, and incredibly cool. It makes you want to buy a sturdy watch, learn how to drive a Mini Cooper down some stairs, and never, ever trust a man in a suit with a headset.
