If Hollywood ever decided to hold auditions for an actual Amazon warrior, they'd probably just ring Gal Gadot and save themselves the trouble. The Israeli actress has spent the last decade proving that you can be elegant, effortlessly glamorous and still look entirely believable while charging into battle with a sword and shield. Quite frankly, some people are just showing off.
Long before she was saving the world in slow motion, Gal was carving out a life that already sounded more impressive than most action movie scripts. She served in the Israeli Defense Forces, won the Miss Israel title and studied law and international relations before eventually finding herself in Hollywood. Most of us are just trying to survive Monday mornings, while Gal had already completed half a lifetime's worth of achievements before many actors had even found an agent.
For a lot of movie fans, her first major introduction came through the Fast & Furious franchise. As Gisele Yashar, she brought a cool, understated confidence to the series and quickly proved she could hold her own alongside Vin Diesel and a fleet of exploding cars. But it was Wonder Woman that changed everything. Armed with a lasso, a sword and enough charisma to light up Themyscira, Gal's take on Diana Prince became one of the most beloved superhero performances of modern times.
And honestly, it wasn't difficult to see why. While plenty of superheroes spend half their films looking miserable, Gal brought warmth, optimism and genuine compassion to the role. She made Wonder Woman feel heroic in the old-fashioned sense of the word, the kind of person who actually wants to help people rather than spend two hours arguing with their teammates.
Away from comic books and action films, Gal has gradually expanded her range with thrillers, mysteries and historical dramas. But through all the fame and magazine covers, she's always carried herself with an effortless grace that feels refreshingly free from Hollywood nonsense. There's a reason audiences around the world have taken to her so warmly.
• Before becoming an actress, Gal seriously considered becoming a lawyer. Somewhere out there is an alternate universe where Wonder Woman spends her days dealing with parking disputes and divorce settlements.
• She performed many of her own stunts in Wonder Woman and drew on her military training to bring authenticity to the role. Which explains why she looked far more convincing than someone who's just spent six weeks at stunt camp.
• Gal was actually five months pregnant while filming parts of Wonder Woman. Visual effects teams had to digitally hide her baby bump, meaning she was literally saving the world while expecting. Talk about multitasking.
Gal Gadot has the sort of presence old Hollywood stars used to possess. She can walk into a scene and instantly make everything feel a bit more glamorous without ever seeming arrogant or over-the-top. Whether she's racing cars, fighting gods or wielding the Lasso of Truth, she brings warmth, dignity and just enough mischief to make every performance enjoyable. And let's be honest, if someone has to save the world, you could do a lot worse than handing Gal Gadot a sword and letting her crack on.
