⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Set before, during, and after the events of the original 300, this sequel shifts the carnage from the hot gates of Thermopylae to the churning Aegean Sea. Greek general Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) attempts to unite all of Greece to fend off the massive Persian navy led by the vengeful, lethal commander Artemisia (Eva Green) and the "God-King" Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro). It’s a "side-quel" that swaps out land-based phalanxes for high-stakes naval warfare, complete with ship-ramming, Greek fire, and enough CGI blood to fill the Mediterranean. THE PROS Eva Green is a absolute "Guaranteed Banger." She doesn't just play Artemisia; she devours the scenery, the crew, and the entire Greek navy with every sinister smirk. She is the best thing about the movie and the primary reason it reaches a 6/10. The visual style remains a Masterpiece of stylized action—the "hyper-reality" slow-motion ship battles and rain-soaked sword fights look stunning on a big screen. If you’re here for the "Business" of watching soldiers jump between sinking ships while hacking through Persians, you’re going to get exactly what you paid for. THE CONS Sullivan Stapleton’s Themistokles suffers from "Pail and Unimpressive" syndrome when compared to Gerard Butler's Leonidas; he lacks that thunderous "This is Sparta!" charisma that defined the first film. It’s a 6/10 because the "over-stylized gore" starts to feel repetitive after the first hour, and the story is thinner than a Spartan's loincloth. The CGI blood occasionally looks like flying strawberry jam, and the infamous "aggression sex scene" between the two leads is a Masterpiece of unintended comedy.
